Do you think that providing case data on the Internet will unduly reduce the privacy of litigants?
Absolutely not. The information being provided on the Internet is not reducing privacy, as such information is already public record. Anyone can pick up the phone and receive the same information provided by the 5th District Court of Appeals' website. Admittedly, it does make access to such information more readily available for those who know how to find it, but there is a good claim that as a government of the people, by the people and for the people, our government should make open records information as easily accessible as possible, including case data. Keeping such information available on the Internet should, ultimately, benefit the citizens of the State of Texas through more efficient case management and more efficient information delivery.
